Sometimes you just have to upgrade, whether it be a home, a vehicle, the landscaping, your wardrobe or your eyeglasses. 

NECESSITY OFTEN DRIVES SHOPPING.  For me, I needed a new pair of shooting glasses.  I’ve been using my driving glasses because they were designed for distance viewing.  Sadly, the rims of the driving glasses tend to hit the gun stock.  Not good.  While I’m not required to use driving glasses since I passed the eye exam performed to renew my driver’s license and the Motor Vehicle Administration said I don’t need driving glasses, I believe that it helps to be able to read street signs, house numbers, pot holes and other small things on the road.  Every 5 years when renewing my drivers license I take my glasses, but always manage to pass the test without them.  I’ve often said that I’ll be the oldest person on the road without “glasses needed” on my driver’s license.  So, while my 5 year old driving glasses were fine for driving, they just didn’t work well for a round of Skeet or Trap.  That clay pigeon moves fast and good vision is necessary.  Yesterday, I decided to try to find an optometrist who had frames suitable for shooting glasses. 

Meet Dr. Michael J. Bermel.  I’m glad I did.  In a week or two, I’ll have new shooting glasses, new reading/computer viewing glasses and new sun/driving glasses.  Yes, I’m an impulse shopper.  However, from time to time, when necessity forces me to seek services, I realize that it’s time to upgrade.

GUNSMITH LOUDOUN COUNTY VA, STRAIGHT SHOOTERS GUNSMITHING, LOUDOUN COUNTY BUSINESSES

For folks who enjoy the shooting sports, a good Gunsmith is an essential resource.  My recently purchased Beretta Shot Gun needed some gunsmithing and, thankfully, the gun shop where I purchased it, recommended Ray Siegert, the Gunsmith owner of Straight Shooters Gunsmithing.  Located conveniently in Hillsboro (Purcellville), in Western Loudoun County, his shop which is the lower level of his home is only about 15 miles from my home. 

Some of the basic gunsmithing that I needed was to have the stock slightly shortened and the pitch straightened.  These are necessary to reduce recoil.  If the gun fits well, it will have negligible recoil.  Ray is very skilled with stock modification.  In fact, this gentleman hand crafts new stocks from a selection of hard woods that show true craftsmanship.

Today I ordered a new Winchester 101 Skeet Gun from Straight Shooters.  Ray is a licensed dealer and will have it from the factory in about a week or two.  His prices for factory orders are about 12% less than the retailers.  Since the stock will probably have to be adjusted, they always do, it makes sense to buy the gun from Ray.
